Get to know more about Eurowings

Eurowings

Eurowings Airline is a German carrier owned by the largest airline company in the country, that is Lufthansa. It was founded in 1993 as a result of merging two small regional airlines: Nurnberger Flugdienst and Reise- und Industrieflug.
Eurowings started operating in 1994. The first flight of the company took off from Nuremberg to Paris. Initially, the carrier’s fleet consisted mainly of ATR 42 and 72 aircraft. Afterward, Bae 146 airliners were added to the fleet, followed later by Airbus A320 and A310.
In 2001, Lufthansa acquired a stake in Eurowings to assume complete ownership of the airline in 2009. Since then, Eurowings has been providing services to Lufthansa and its budget carrier, Germanwings, flying mainly from Hamburg and Düsseldorf to various locations across Germany, as well as to many European cities. It offers flights also to 3 Polish airports – in Warsaw, Wroclaw, and Cracow.
Eurowings serves a network of 34 destinations in Europe and – since Autumn 2015 – some long-haul routes, such as Florida, South Africa, and the islands of the Indian Ocean.

Baggage

When flying with Eurowings, you can have carry-on luggage, but it must not exceed weight and dimension limits. They are determined by your booking class and the destination. The checked baggage should meet the size and weight restrictions too. They also depend on the booking class and the route.

Booking classes

Eurowings airline provides all the passengers with the highest quality service, however certain conditions and additional facilities vary, depending on which carrier you’re flying with – Lufthansa or Germanwings.
The first one offers 4 different travel classes – Economy, Premium Economy, Business, and First Class.
Passengers traveling with Germanwings can choose between 3 fare types. BASIC is the cheapest one, the ticket price includes only the flight. Supplementary services can be added for an extra fee. BEST fare will satisfy the most demanding passengers. It offers special comfort and luxuries, such as exclusive lie-flat seats with more leg room.

Eurowings (when operating on behalf of Germanwings) offers passengers the convenience of online check-in, available between 72 to 3 hours before the flight. At most German departure airports you can check in online even up to 30 minutes prior the scheduled departure time. When flying with Lufthansa, you can check-in online from 23 hours before departure.

Fleet

Eurowings used to operate Bombardiers CRJ900 aircraft, but now its fleet consists mostly of Airbus A319, A320, and A330. On some routes, the airline uses also a Boeing 767-300ER. Eurowings continues to modernize and unify the fleet by replacing its 23 Bombardier jets with Airbus A320 that is twice the size. The largest aircraft of the Eurowings’ fleet is Airbus A330-200 which offers seats for up to 335 passengers.
